El Chupacabra: Hello out there, we’re on the air, and our tour of Australia starts TONIGHT! We’re kicking off EWC Finale Week with the Rampage season finale right here in Perth, but this is just the tip of the iceberg!
Jesse Payne: Heh… Just the tip…
El Chupacabra: ...ANYWAY, Sunday features a rare EWC double bill, as PRIME hits Brisbane and FSW goes live from Melbourne!
Jesse Payne: I’m jealous of the FSW peeps. I always wanted to wrestle on a tennis court.
El Chupacabra: After that, BRAWL drops its curtain on Monday night in Sydney, and it all leads to Melbourne for WrestleFest XV on December 18! But what a week we’ve had here already, and that’s just with everything that happened at Stable Wars. Unfortunately, Rampage came up a little short in its elimination match, but the Doomsday Cage Match winner came from here-
“THE ACE OF SPADES!!! THE ACE OF SPADES!!!”
Jesse Payne: And here he is!
Even before Lemmy’s voice fades, the Australian crowd screams in delight, their euphoria only further amplified by the opening bars to the Motorhead classic. After a few seconds, Ace King walks out with Shelley Silver; there’s no pyro, the spotlights are focused on them, and the United States Championship rests comfortably on his shoulder.
El Chupacabra: Indeed, Ace King was the last man standing in the Doomsday Cage, and also the last member of Rampage to be pinned, as Rebel Rhodes got him with a Rebel Star Press at Stable Wars.
Jesse Payne: Shelley, of course, also turned in a solid performance, getting eliminated just before Ace did.
El Chupacabra: Of course, that all got overshadowed by the end of Stable Wars, where Victor Price’s mercenaries ambushed all of EWC’s singles champions, a cowardly move if ever there was one, and I could be wrong, but Ace doesn’t seem to be in a forgiving mood.
They slowly walk down the ramp together, tagging the outstretched arms of the boisterous fans chanting their names; they exchange a look before Ace dives into the ring under the bottom rope, then sitting on the middle rope for Shelley to step through.
Once she does, a stagehand tosses Ace a microphone; he calmly catches it as ‘Ace of Spades’ fades out, allowing the lively crowd in Perth to rise with chants for both competitors. Ace nods along, then raises the microphone to his mouth with a small smirk.
Ace King: And how are all my Ace-Stralians doing tonight?
Predictably, the Perth crowd goes bonkers again, while Shelley tries not to laugh at the name he gave his fans.
El Chupacabra: Ace-Stralians?
Jesse Payne: Better than calling them the Nation Of Ace-Lam, I guess.
Chants serenading ‘The Gambler’ fill the arena; before long, they break into the kinds of chants you’d hear at a rugby or Aussie Rules match. Briefly overwhelmed, Ace takes a step back to let them continue; eventually, he raises the microphone once more.
Ace King: So it’s fitting that I’m facing Nostalgia tonight because, loathe as I am to do it, I have to look back to address what lies ahead. I mean, there’s no shortage of things to talk about, right? I mean, how about Drake suddenly reappearing?
Shelley’s expression fades, but the fans are all for it; they’re split right down the middle between chanting for Ace and Drake, which is no surprise to ‘The Gambler’ as he looks out at the audience.
Ace King: You know, I’d usually be against somebody walking in and immediately getting a title shot, but this is different. This feels right, as strange as it sounds. Hear me out here: With all due respect to Eddie Crank, the Rumble in the Bronx winner against the Undisputed Champion at WrestleFest is how it’s supposed to go; even though the championship itself is technically vacant, I still see Drake as the Champion since nobody’s beaten him for it. So really, two guys who work harder than just about anyone, with this industry’s biggest prize hanging in the balance? Sounds good to me.
Again, the crowd cheers heavily for both men; Ace twirls the microphone around in his hand, rolling his head on his neck before adopting a much more serious tone.
Ace King: Of course, that was but one part of what went on that night, wasn’t it? I won’t lie, my body’s still feeling the effects of it all; it’s been a long time since I’ve competed twice in a night, and I’m not getting any younger. If I’ve ever done consecutive matches, they sure as hell weren’t as tough as Monday night was… And yet, I’ll never forget that night in my hometown. While I feel truly blessed to have survived the war of attrition known as the Doomsday Cage…
The crowd forces Ace to pause with their applause; Shelley joins right in, as Ace simply waves at them so he can continue.
Ace King: I might have survived the Doomsday Cage, but what happened before… and ESPECIALLY after… It all burns at me. See, all I heard going in was that I wasn’t going to give my all for Friday Night Rampage, how I was going to save myself for the main event.
Ace’s serious demeanour remains, and the crowd continues to eat it all up.
Ace King: It eats away at me, because I wasn’t raised to just give up, no matter how dire the situation. Much like Shelley, Jeremiah, and even Latoya, we busted our asses for that match where others just sat on the fucking sidelines and did NOTHING. And yet, despite all the virtues I espoused along the way… I failed, and it fucking stings. You want to question my loyalty? Well… You saw what she did to Cambric, right?
The crowd roars in approval as he points to Shelley, who playfully curtsies with a smirk.
Jesse Payne: She went all Lorena Bobbitt on him.
El Chupacabra: Well, she did warn him in advance; thank God we don’t have a replay.
They exchange a look in the ring, each trying not to laugh. After a few seconds, Ace regains his focus.
Ace King: I don’t know how she found it; needle in a haystack. ANYWAY, what she did to him… That kind of pain is just the beginning of the kind of what I’d inflict, so even though the result may not have gone in our favour, HOW DARE ANYONE DOUBT MY LOYALTY! ...Now, Victor Price, on the other hand…
He barely gets the BRAWL general manager’s name out before he’s shouted down by the fury of those in attendance.
Ace King: Well, I suppose to the shock of nobody, that terra cotta twit decided to go into business for himself. He couldn’t BEAR the thought of being overshadowed, YET AGAIN… So he just had to make sure he had the last word.
Again, the derision rains down heavily; Ace bows his head and breathes heavily, trying his best to not allow rage to consume him.
Ace King: I should be concerning myself with SO MANY THINGS, like preparing for Drake, or figuring out who I’m defending this United States Championship against. Instead? You had to steal the show... You really done fucked up this time, Price.
Ace begins to pace back and forth in the ring, his intensity ramping up with every word as the Perth crowd is behind him.
Ace King: Everybody knew you were incompetent, but now? We also know you’re scared. You’re scared your power trip’s going to end tomorrow, so you felt you needed to make your big move. Instead, all you’ve done is abuse your power and turn the empire against you.
The speed of his pacing increases; he lunges over the top rope, as if to address the camera directly.
Ace King: Did you forget I’m coming to BRAWL to compete on Monday anyway? Did you REALLY think it would be a good idea to shake your undersized stick at the hornet’s nest that is EWC? Not one person has supported you… You’re alone, and we’re coming.
Immediately, a feverish ‘EWC!’ chants rings through Perth Arena; Ace stops pacing and returns to the middle of the ring, his expression almost alarmingly level.
Ace King: Sorry if I’m all over the map tonight, folks; a lot of stuff has gone down. But mark my words: I’m ready tonight. I hope you’re ready, Leonardo; you were part of the victory that’s made my blood boil, so I WILL have my vengeance. I must restore my dignity, so I’M COMING AT YOU WITH EVERY FUCKING OUNCE OF STRENGTH I HAVE IN MY BODY!
He slams the mic down to the mat; he and Shelley step through the ropes and out of the ring as ‘Ace of Spades’ begins to play and we go to commercial.
