The twilight of one's career is something that no one wants to accept. Its a telltale signal that one's career is coming to a close slowly, but surely. But, ask around and a twenty year career is nothing to spit at, no matter who you are. This is the curious case of one Phoenix Winterborn. Phoenix was one of those rare entities that could lend credence to the term, 'Seen it all, and done more.' World-traveled, winning championships everywhere that he went...innovator of matches, creator of hopes, all-around awesome guy. But, father time has started to catch up to him. He wasn't the young eighteen year old that broke into the business back at the turn of the century. It seems like such a long time ago putting it in that perspective. But, here we are. 2019. Coming up on twenty years in this crazy business, but to Phoenix...the years have flown by. He's gotten to live and perform all over the world. Everything has led him to this moment. This run in EWC. The people have called for it for years, but it never seemed like the right time.
Until now.
Now is the right now. Now is the time for Phoenix Winterborn to make his way to EWC, and more specifically Friday Night Rampage. It is time to show the rest of the world who the American Tradition was.
Open scene on a home in the Chicago suburb Evanston, bordering the shore of Lake Michigan. The Polar Vortex was in full swing, as Lake Michigan was a giant frozen chunk of ice. He looked out from his kitchen, sipping a cup of hot chocolate (he hated coffee) as the wind and snow blew around his house.
PHOENIX WINTERBORN: Flippin 'eck, that's decent. (He blew softly on the cup, turning towards the camera) Hey there, you all. So, I bet I know what you're thinking...you're probably wondering to yourself, 'What is Phoenix Winterborn doing in Extreme Wrestling Corporation? Has heck frozen over? Are pigs flying?' Well, not in this weather they're not, but again with this weather, heck might have in fact frozen over. I mean, look at this garbage outside. It's insane. But...that's not why you're here. You're here to find out why I've come to EWC. Well, let me talk to ya. I've done a lot since I started wrestling many years ago. But, there's one thing I've never done. I've never won championship gold in EWC. This is the final act. The last chapter, if you will. So, the journey begins once again. Starting at the bottom, as one should. Even someone as established, and distinguished as myself. If I'm going to have a suitable end to my career, I'm going to do it the right way. No shortcuts, no getting by on my good looks and a dash of charm. Just pure...going out there, and getting the job done. I don't care who I have to go through. Whether you're the top champion here, or another low man on the totem pole such as myself. Two thousand and nineteen is the Year of the Firebird. And that...is change you can believe in.
