One last look. That's all we get.
Jordan Sharpe unlocks the door to the storage warehouse he called home. The place that holds what he used to think was his entire life. He exhales a deep sigh, and looks around at the remnants of his old wrestling promotion. The banners still hanging from the ceiling. The old, broken down ring that he used to train for his EWC return. The boxes and boxes of sun faded old merchandise that was never sold. He used to think that this was the greatest thing he had ever done in life. Over the course of a few months competing on EWC Prime, Jordan learned that this wasn't true whatsoever. Travelling the world while professional wrestling has given him a new purpose, has drowned out the deep, dark thoughts that occupied the space in his head, and for lack of a better term, saved his life.
But after every match, he would return to this warehouse. It was all he knew, and after every physical punch in the face, he would be metaphorically punched in the face by his past. It was here that in his quest to become a Champion that his inner self told him what he had known all along: that he needs to leave all of this behind.
I think it's time.
He knows it's true, and he nods to himself as he smiles and turns to leave. He turns the key in the lock again, this time locking it up for good and heading to his car. He's got himself a considerably nicer house in York Mills, a suburb of Toronto. He splurged a bit on it, but he keeps telling himself he's earned it. The entire city has been in a frenzy because of the Toronto Raptors, and as the warm summer breeze blows through his downed car windows he can't help but be in a good mood.
I think everything we've went through has finally paid off. We're doin' pretty good.
Jordan pulls up to his house and lugs a couple boxes out of the trunk into the entryway of little two-story home. A few boxes have already been scattered throughout the house, he's been unpacking a little bit at a time of the stuff that he does have. Mostly clothes and wrestling merch. It's taken a bit of an adjustment for him to live somewhere ... normal? He tosses the EWC Television Championship on his new couch, shoots it the 'finger guns' and heads off to the kitchen to unpack some glasses. While Sharpe rocks out to Metallica and Avenged Sevenfold singing very, very poorly, he doesn't notice a notification on his phone that's been sitting there nearly 30 minutes.
Ohh shit. What is this?
Hey Jordy. It's Mallory. I know we haven't talked in a while. I understand you were going through some things, but we've all been watching you do your wrestling on TV and you are doing so amazing!! I am so happy you are back on your feet and doing well!! Saidie in particular seems super interested in wrestling. You know she's always been super outgoing and wanting to try just about everything crazy that she can get into. So she's kind of been wanting me to ask you if she can come stay with you and learn about wrestling? if that's okay with you? Tom and I don't have a problem with it, god knows we can't stop her anyways, but I know you've moved and stuff and it's a big adjustment and you can totally say no and it's no problem but she's been B E G G I N G me to ask. I don't want to put you out, but I thought it might be good for the both of you? She can get to know her uncle better and you guys can bond!! Let me know??
Jordan is almost unable to process what he just read. Saidie? As in his niece, Saidie? Even more so, he had pushed himself away from his sister Mallory a few years ago and he thought they wanted nothing to do with him because of it. But it seems like they have forgiven him? Saidie has gotta be what, 19 now? And she wants WHAT? To learn to wrestle? I mean, she's always been into anything dangerous or athletic. Dirtbikes, off road trucks, karate, rugby, anything. But this is something completely different. Maybe some family time would be good for him, like Mal said. He could get to know her better. Get back another piece of himself that's missing.
I think this is a sign for us, Jordan.
He contemplates for one more moment, and brings the keyboard up on his phone.
Send her my way. Good to hear from you guys.
He never thought his life would end up this way. From the lowest of lows, and teetering on the edge of a line you only get to cross once, to rediscovering his passion for wrestling and what he believes is his purpose in life. He's got a new place to live, a new outlook on life, a new shiny Championship belt and now he's going to get a second chance to connect with his family. And now, with Saidie, he would have a whole new challenge to overcome.
He sets his phone down, looking out of his picture window of his living room.
"I guess this is chapter two."
