Blood dripped down from Leanne's brow, splashing to the canvas below her. Leanne tried to wipe the blood but the more she rubbed the more blood fell. She was blinded by the warm liquid, suffocating as all ten pints of blood left her body through a tiny cut above her left eye.. It was the end, there would be no tomorrow. Dr. Leanne Sevastopol knew she was knocking on death's door as she collapsed to the ground..
.. And then she awoke from her slumber, crashing to the floor of her apartment. Another nightmare, that's all it was. Leanne's eyes scanned over to the alarm clock on her nightstand, in giant bold letters it proclaimed the time to be 4 AM. She lay her head back against the smooth carpet floors and sighed, quickly falling back to sleep.
The alarm clock's annoying tone sprung to life and startled Leanne who was still sleeping on the floor. She grunted and sighed, but eventually found herself standing. She shut off the alarm and walked into her tiny kitchen to start a pot of coffee. Leanne jumped in a quick shower while the pot brewed about ten cups of Folgers Black Silk Coffee. Leanne emerged from her bathroom covered in a towel and then making her way into the kitchen she grabbed the handle of the coffee pot and started drinking straight from the carafe. Leanne downed about half a cup before putting the carafe back and then going to get dressed. She threw on some shorts, a tank top and a pair of running shoes. From there it was your average morning routine, she made herself some eggs while drinking from the carafe every now and again before finally sitting down to check her phone.
After texting Tim she set the phone down before finishing the coffee and just sitting there. Her cell phone vibrated on the table and Leanne checked it, expecting Tim but instead it was a phone call from an unknown number.
"I'm sorry, who is this?"
"I'm hanging up now, don't call me back"
The phone clicks to silence as Leanne throws it against the wall before falling out of her chair, awake. She had been daydreaming. Leanne got up to her feet before noticing a fresh bruise growing on her left leg by her knee from the fall. "Going to be one of those days…"
Leanne pulled herself up, picked up her phone and limped to the door before grabbing her keys and exiting the apartment.
Leanne was out of breath but had finally completed her jog to the gym. She knew the owner well enough to have a spare key and knew she could get in a good hour or so of gym time before they officially opened. Leanne unlocked the doors and entered the gym, pulling the doors closed and locking them again behind her.. She made her way inside and after a few seconds of darkness was blinded by the motion sensor lights. Leanne began her warm-up, a five-minute HIIT routine she had learned from a fellow wrestler. After that she dropped some stretches and about ten minutes of yoga. Leanne did a few body weight lunges and then made her way over to a leg extension machine. She took a seat and set the pin to fifty pounds and then did fifteen leg extensions, took a minute break and upped the weight to one hundred for another set.
Feeling loose and limber she made herself over to the squat racks. Leanne threw a ten on each side and did the math (counting the forty-five pound barbell), "sixty-five" she said to herself with a nod. Leanne dropped under the bar and lifted it up onto her trapezius muscles before squatting down and beginning her set. She did five reps, then dropped down into a sixth and held the weight for about fifteen seconds before standing and then doing two more reps of the same. Leanne racked the barbell and threw two more tens on each side, as well as two fives. "Ninety-five, let's do this". Leanne got in position and looked up at the clock, waiting for about a minute before lifting the weight and repeating the set she had just done. Leanne quickly racked the weight and removed the fives and new tens before hurriedly doing the set again. After completing her drop-set Leanne racked the weight and peered up at the clock. Taking note of the time she removed the two tens and slid on two thirties and two tens. "Body weight. Let's go." Leanne struggled to get the weight up, but from there it was smooth sailing as she did her first five reps. The sixth rep wasn't as easy, with her legs beginning to wobble but she finished the set. "Hell yea!" Leanne was beaming with pride as she made her way over to a study bench and began to do the next part of her routine, step-ups to failure. Leanne got to about fifty before her legs were too shaky to do any more. She sat down on the bench and looked up at the clock, as if on cue the doors unlocked and people began pushing their way in. Leanne looked down at her knee, now a dark purple bruise was glaring back up at her. She had forgotten all about the fall this morning. Leanne sighed and walked over to the squat racks, pulling off the weights and putting them up. Leanne made her way to the door and out into the cold air. Beginning the long jog back to her apartment.
