With the Mexico City crowd reacting to David Miller retaining the CW Broadcast Network Championship in the distance, things are much quieter just outside the Arena Mexico locker room.
After a few seconds, the door swings open and X-Division Champion Ace King, now back in his street clothes, has his belongings together and his championship over his shoulder.
He calmly makes his way through the backstage area in search of a monitor to watch the evening’s main event with vested interest. He spots one and makes his way to it, but as he gets there, a familiar voice makes itself heard.
Voice: I thought I might find you here, Ace.
‘The Gambler’ sports an amused grin as the shot pans out to reveal the voice belongs to PARAMOUNT General Manager Chris Brock.
Ace King: And what, pray tell, would bring you here? Did I mess up my signature on the contract earlier?
Brock: Not at all. I forgot to mention something to you earlier during all the commotion in the ring.
Ace raises an eyebrow at Brock, though a smirk crosses his lips at the same time.
Ace King: What’s up? Another hoop for me to jump through? It’s obviously in your best interest to try and keep the top prize on Paramount.
Brock: Easy there man. You know I've been in the “Ace deserves an Undisputed title shot” camp for a while. That’s not changing, but this...
Brock points to the X-Division Championship.
Brock: This MUST be defended at StrangleMania.
‘The Gambler’ props the championship up on his shoulder a little higher, his expression not changing.
Ace King: I’m listening...
Brock: Well here’s the rub Ace. There’s only been two X-Division matches all season thus far. So the board of GMs got together and decided that it is only fair that
the winners of those matches fight you for the X-Division Championship. So at StrangleMania is going to be 3 the hard way for the X-Division Championship. You versus Wes Walker… Versus Killjoy Ito.
Ace takes a moment to process what he’s just heard, offering Brock a thin smile in return.
Ace King: Man, pulling out all the stops to get this back to Wednesday nights while softening me up for Stitches, eh? But all jokes aside, I think I’ve proven I’ll take on any challenger at any time, and even though it means a second match in Miami, it would be an insult to the championship sitting on my shoulder right now if I didn’t fight like hell to keep it, so bring it on.
There’s a hint of excitement in Ace‘s voice as he stands a little bit straighter while awaiting Brock’s response.
Brock: Then it’s official. You’ve got two tickets to Miami, one for each Championship match.
Brock walks out of the scene as Ace stands stoic. Fade to black.
