CHAPTER I: TIMOTHY DEACON
Act I: I am Timothy Deacon
Date: June 6th, 2018
Time: 2:05pm
Location: Ojai, California
Unknown Bar
The camera pans around a small local bar that appears to be mostly empty, considering the sun is still shining through the windows it would appear to still be day time. The camera focuses in on a man wearing a black flannel with a white undershirt. His jeans appear to be muddy and ripped up, perhaps he works in some kind of construction. His boots are brown and seem to be steel-toed. The man sits alone enjoying his miller light, only taking small sips every couple minutes. The man sits in peace before the bartender approaches.
Bartender: Can I get you anything else sir?
Man: Just the check please
The man pulls out a black leather wallet from his back pocket as the noise in the bar appears to increase. The bartender hands the man the bill who proceeds to take some cash out of his wallet and lays it on the counter. The man turns around to leave when he notices four men sitting twenty-five feet away from him .Three of the men appear to be circling one of the men in a bullying fashion, the man stands at his bar stool and begins to listen in on the conversation.
Bully 1: What are you gonna do about it sissy bitch?
Bully 2: We don't like your kind around here, why don't you just go back where you came from?
Bully 3: We should just beat his ass and leave him to rot, teach him a lesson.
Bully 1: Careful now, he might enjoy that too much.
Victim: Why don't you assholes just leave me alone?
Bully 1: Uh-oh he's getting a little sensitive fellas
Bully 3: What's wrong sissy? Gonna go cry to your boyfriend?
The man from the bar picks up his empty beer bottle from the counter and begins to approach the four men with a serious look on his face. As he begins to approach the man begins to chime in.
Man: Why don't you fellas just leave him alone and go home?
One of the bullies turn around and looks at the man, he begins to smirk at him.
Bully 2: What are you looking at bitch?
Bully 1: Why don't you go back to the bar and mind your own damn business
The man tightens his grip on the empty beer bottle before raising it above his head and smashing it across the skull of one of the bullies. One of the glass shards slices the top of the bullies head as he tumbles to the ground and blood begins to poor from his head. Another bully rushes the man and tackles him into a table, knocking down the table and the glassware that was one the table. With both men now on the ground the bully nails the man above the right eye with his fist. The man reaches over and grabs a glass beer cup from the ground, the man swings the glass cup at the bully and the glass shatters above the bullies left eye. The bully stumbles over with his hands over his eye, you can see a little bit of blood start to pour down to the ground. As the man begins to bring himself up from the ground the third bully whacks the man in the back with a pool cue, snapping the pool cue in half. The man falls back to the ground, the third bully puts his knees on the abdomen of the man and begins to throw left and right punches at the mans face, bloodying and bruising his face. After several blows to the face the bully gets up and helps his friends up. All three bullies spit in the face of the bloodied man before exiting the bar. The victim gets up from his seat and helps the man up, who struggles to get to his feet.
Victim: Hey man, you didn't have to do that for me. They would have left eventually.
The man stares at the victim and spits blood to the ground. The man struggles to say his words.
Man: Sometimes .... you just got ..
Before finishing his sentence the man falls to his knees holding his abdomen and looking at his own tooth in the pile of blood he spit up.
Man: Oh damnit, I just went to the dentist yesterday too.
The victim chuckles before helping the man to his feet again, he walks him to an empty chair as the bartender brings him an ice pack
Victim: Names Ben, what's yours?
Man: Names Timothy
Ben: Well, it's nice to meet you Timothy, not sure how I can thank you for sticking up for a stranger
Timothy: No thanks needed. We gotta stick up for each other because no one else will.
The two men stare at each other for a couple of seconds before Ben smiles at Timothy.
Ben: You know, beaten up face and all you're a very handsome fella
Timothy cracks a smile and begins to laugh. Ben buys Timothy a drink before the scene cuts to black.
Act II: No turning back
Date: January 1st, 2020
Location: Ojia, California
Time: 9:00am
Local Training Facility
The camera pans around a massive training facility that consists of 6 punching bags, 4 standard sized rings, and all the weights a man could wish for. The camera turns to Timothy who is in the ring with his trainer. Timothy appears to be taking multiple bumps and clotheslines before taking a break.
Trainer: Alright, good progress today Timothy. You've still got a lot to learn. You're taking bumps better than you did a couple months ago, but your punches are still stiff so we will need to work on that. A man of your size and body build should focus on acrobats a little more. We will learn to jump off the top rope tomorrow. In the meantime, I recommend hitting the weights and a lot of cardio in the meantime.
Timothy is seen breathing very heavily and coughing before uttering a couple words.
Timothy: This shit is hard as fuck
The trainer chuckles
Trainer: It's no walk in the park. Go work on cardio and conditioning yourself, it will get easier as time goes on. I'll see you tomorrow.
The trainer walks out as Timothy continues to sit on the ring apron breathing heavily and chugging water out of his Gatorade bottle. Before he can get up Ben approaches and sits next to Timothy
Ben: Alright, I have some great ideas. I was thinking the beach but nothing to cliché we don't need like the beach at sunset or anything like that.
Timothy: Ideas?
Ben: Yea, ideas for our wedding!
Timothy: I just proposed 9 hours ago and you've already go ideas?
Ben: Yea, I was up all night browsing the internet for ideas. You would be surprised how many wedding ideas are on Pinterest. It's like the best thing that has ever been invented when it comes to planning a wedding.
Timothy chuckles before having a coughing attack from the extensive training
Ben: You ok? Are you sure this is what you want to do with your life?
Timothy: Yea, I'm fine. And this has been a dream of mine for years. I put all my life savings into this dream so I can't turn back now. I just need to get through the pain and I'll be fine
Ben: I am very happy that you're chasing your dreams, but you have to be careful not to overdue it or injure yourself in the process. I once had an uncle who went for a walk and he never came back. Turns out that walk was too much for him and he passed out.
Timothy: ummm, so what? He died?
Ben: Yes
Timothy: Why are you telling me this?
Ben: Just don't overdue it ok? Our bodies can only handle so much before it gives out on us. And I guess that day that walk was too much for my uncle
Timothy: Well, thank you for the story. I am fine and I feel good.
Ben: Turns out it was a heart attack but you get my point.
Timothy: I'll be ok, thank you for worrying about me. I'm gonna go back to training but I will see you at home where we can discuss the wedding.
Ben doesn't seem to be interested in changing the conversation back to the wedding, and appears to be concerned about the beating Timothy's body is enduring. But trusts that Timothy won't overdue his training and is thrilled to discuss wedding plans.
Ben: Alright, I will see you at home. Love you
Timothy: Love you too.
The two share a kiss as Ben leaves the facility. Timothy who is clearly in pain begins to cough into his hands this time coughs up blood. Timothy wipes off his hands with his rag and gets up to proceed to the weight training to continue his training.
