NEXTGEN EPISODE 002 EXTENSIVE RECAP
MAY 26TH, 2022
Welcome to the extensive recap of EWC's NextGen episode 2. Our second show is taking place live from the Main Street Armory in Rochester, New York. It's a pretty packed smaller venue, and everyone is rocking out to 'The Good Life' by Three Days Grace which is blasting over the PA system and speakers.
EWC President Mac is out right now, he is talking to the crowd, introducing NextGen as the 'Next Generation of EWC Superstars'. He then introduces the team. The General Manger Vic Scali comes out and welcomes everyone. Thanks Mac for the intro. He talks about how excited he is to get this talent to the next level and how grateful he is for everyone that enjoyed episode one of Next Gen. He hopes episode two is even better.
John Livingston and Eric Mason are introduced as the analysts / commentary team. Alison Chen is introduced as the ring announcer, a bunch of cheers and whistles when she walks out. Then we meet the backstage interviewer, "Respectable" Joe Danes and finally the three EWC referees being used on NextGen: Linda Vine, Kat Dawkins & rookie referee Toby Sawyer.
We see a video package introducing us to the NextGen Roster. We get to see some backstage footage of them preparing, we see some of the training that goes on at the EWC's Wrestling Academy.
Mason: I'm Eric Mason, he's John Livingston and welcome back to another exciting round of EWC Next Gen I'm so happy to be calling the action with you here tonight again John this'll be fantastic. These young rookie superstars are ready to go and I can't wait to see what they've learned since our last show. So great to be here again, John.
Livingston: I can't believe they allowed us back but here we are, this should be great. The check from the last show cleared so I'm very happy to be back.
Mason: And I'm sure you're happy to be back with me, partner, right? Let's get to it!
There are 3 matches scheduled for the night. We are ready for the first as Sunny Skye and Sleepy Winters both make their way down to the ring during their respective entrances.
The bell sounds and they square off. The crowd is really into as Sunny makes sure she plays to them as soon as she gets in the ring. Both competitors looked very ready to score the win in our opening match, albeit one more drowzy than the other. As the bell rang Sunny wanted to go on the attack early, rushing Sleepy and hitting him with her kick combos. Winters wasn't going to let her take him down easy, as he went for his trademark 'Rest Hold' right away. But that wasn't stopping Sunny as she struggled momentarily but managed to push him off into the ropes and followed it up with a great enziguri. She pulled Sleepy to the middle of the ring for a two count but Sleepy kicked out and you could see the frustration on Skye's face. Sleepy took advantage of this frustration, whipping Sunny into the corner and hitting ten punches up on the turnbuckle. Sunny shook him off at 8, however, and managed to somehow hit him with a huge powerbomb out of the corner! Sleepy was sent reeling and Sunny picked up and knocked him back down with 'The Safe Word' for a three count and a victory!
Mason: What a fantastic opening match-up John, Sunny Skye was on fire here she really didn't want to follow up last show's loss with another. She showed some amazing improvement.
Livingston: She sure did and my god she looked good doing it. Have you seen her website, Eric?
Mason: No I have not, I am a married man.
Livingston: Well that's your loss I guess. Sunny is my favorite around here for sure.
Mason: Goodness John, let's remain professional here. What's up next?
Our second match of the evening was a singles bout pitting Jocelyn Gage up against Justice. Each superstar heads to the ring to a different reaction - Jocelyn got a bunch of cheers from the NG crowd whereas nobody is quite sure of what to make of Justice. Both wrestlers readied themselves in the ring, and as the bell rang the match got underway. Jocelyn was using her dominating power to try to make quick work of Justice, he tried to comically do a test of strength with her that resulted in three harsh suplexes from Gage. Justice wasn't going to put down that easily though, and as Jocelyn dragged him to his feet he managed to poke her in the eye while the referee wasn't looking. This was Justice's opening and he managed to hit PEACEMAKER on Gage and went for a cover but only got a one and a half count. Jocelyn powered out, and upon making it to her feet she grabbed Justice and threw him over the ropes all the way to the floor! Justice rolled in pain for a moment before Gage threw him into the ring post to the crowd's delight before rolling him into the ring. After that it was a 'Toss Up From The Hoss Up' for a resounding three count and a pinfall victory.
Mason: Jocelyn Gage seemed dominating there, Justice didn't know what to do with her. A great showing for Gage as she picks up a big win.
Livingston: I still don't understand Justice, the guy is an enigma wrapped in a riddle.
Mason: Any idea what that means, John?
Livingston: Means you need to just not worry about it. Great match.
Mason: It's time for our main event of the evening!
Our main event match of the night was between Cruz Macaque and Ahiga Lopez. Both wrestlers made their way to the ring to a great reaction from the fired up EWC crowd. Lopez was a bit more serious compared to the wild and untamed Macaque. As the bell rang, Lopez tried to get the best of Cruz, pushing her against the ropes and hitting her with some stiff chops. He irish whipped her to the other side of the ring, and followed it up with a knee strike that made Cruz double over in pain. The crowd starting getting behind Macaque, and she heard them so as Lopez grabbed her for a scoop slam, she slipped off of the back of him and chop blocked him to the ground! Cruz raked the back of Lopez as he let out a yell heard all around the Armory! He got back to his feet but Cruz was already on him, as she whipped him into the corner and followed it with a scorpion kick! Lopez falls and Cruz attempted a pinfall but a long count by the rookie referee resulted in a two count. Cruz started arguing with the referee and ended up getting rolled up by Ahiga but that resulted in a two count of his own! Lopez wasted no time, hitting a double arm DDT and this time almost got her, getting a 2.9999 count from the referee! Frustrated, Lopez backed into the corner and waited for her to get to her feet so he could attempt the Vertical Suplex Brainbuster he calls his finisher. As Cruz turned around, Lopez was caught by surprise by a mean slap right to the face! After that she caught him off guard whipping him to the opposite corner and hitting the Himala Sa 34th Street and a cover for a three count and a second Next Gen victory!
Mason: Cruz Macaque has been unstoppable since showing up here on Next Gen! That makes her 2-0 and what a great victory for her here tonight.
Livingston: Unbelievable. That was one hell of a match. Worthy of our main event tonight.
Mason: Nevertheless, what a fantastic evening we've had here tonight on EWC NEXT GEN! We'll see you next on July 28th in Hidalgo, Texas at the Payne Arena where we've got a stacked line-up for you. Sleepy Winters Vs Ben Superior, Ahiga Lopen Vs Jocelyn Gage and in your main event, the undefeated Cruz Macaque takes on Sunny Skye! All that and more coming at you from the purple brand, EWC NEXT GEN! I'm Eric Mason, for John Livingston and our entire Next Gen team, enjoy your evening! What a show!
