As the scene comes to life, Nev can be seen sitting on the couch in the living room. She has a cup of coffee in her hand and appears to be deep in thought as she looks into the small fireplace before her on the other side of the room. Her thoughts are interrupted as footsteps are heard coming into the room. Since only one other person lives with her, Nev already knows it was her boyfriend. Before he even had a chance to sit down next to her, Nev blurts out what’s on her mind.
“I need to go back.”
“Back where?”
“To the ring.”
Upon those words, her boyfriend freezes in his spot and stands there rigidly. He’s obviously not a fan of this idea. But since he’s at Nev’s back, she can’t see this but can hear the slight irritation in his tone of voice.
“What brought this on? I thought we were having fun here.”
“We ARE having fun here.”, Nev assures him as she puts her mug down on the coffee table and shifts around in her seat so she could turn and look at him, “It’s been a great two month break. We had a great Thanksgiving with our families and we’re decked to the max for Christmas. Which I’m sure will be equally as great. But I can’t stay here and and do nothing with my talent forever.”
At this time, Nev would get up from the couch and walk over to him.
“I need to get back out there. You know as well as I do that I’m meant for this business.”
As she reaches for his hands, he pulls away.
“Maybe I do. But you still could have talked to me before making up your mind.”
“I’m talking to you about it right now.”
Nev said as she levels him with look. She wasn’t sure it would have made a difference either way. Her man was content just being here, she was not.
“I sent out my resume to President Mac of the Extreme Wrestling Corporation. He hasn’t officially accepted me to the new Prime Roster just yet. But why wouldn’t he? I mean, who wouldn’t want someone like me representing their company? The way I see it, it’s really only a matter of time.”
“You’re probably right.”
Her boyfriend sighs heavily. He knew she was right, but wasn’t happy having to admit it.
“But seriously, you’re gonna work for a guy nam..---”
Before he could finish his statement, Nev cuts him off.
“What’s a name got to do with anything? Your name is Zolton and I’m dating you. The fact of the matter is, he runs probably the most successful company out there. Been around just about 20 years and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. That’s pretty impressive. And something I want to be apart of heading into the New Year!”
This didn’t improve Zolton’s mood at all.
“No worries, though. The new Prime Roster doesn’t start until after the holidays, so we’ll still be able to do everything we planned before I got to go back out on the road. I mean, you can even come with me if you want.”
“And if I don’t want to?”
“That’s up to you. But no matter what you decide, I’m going to do this with or without you.”
Zolton runs a hand through his hair and groans at her response.
“Sorry, this is just the way it has to be! I really need to get back out there.”
From here, there is a long stretch of silence before Zolton finally responds.
“I...I just need to think. I’m going for a walk.”
With that being said, Zolton turns on his heel and heads for the door.
“Zolton, wait…”
But he didn’t stop. Instead, he slams the door quite loudly on his way out. Nev cringes slightly with the loudness, then shakes her head as she goes back over to the couch and retakes her seat. Nev supposed she could have considered his feelings a bit more, maybe handled that with a bit more finesse, but her mind was made up. In 2017, she was returning to the ring. Besides, Zolton would could around to the idea eventually, wouldn’t he? That was a question for another day, Nev thought as she goes back to drinking coffee as the scene comes to an end.
