I was ten or so when I watched Star Wars The Phantom Menace for the first time and I always digged Darth Maul. Every Star Wars nerd will tell you Maul was the toughest motherf***er of the franchise. He even survived being cut in half because basically all his life was one big torture and that torture made him resistant to pretty much anything.
These days I still dig Maul and I´m beginning to feel very close to him including the being cut in half part.
I´m also really in touch with the bottomless depths of rage he must have felt.
The one thing I do not have in common with Darth Maul is that I´m beginning to fight back against my master.
I´m back to my conniving, manipulative ways. When you can set up your worst professional rival by screwing her boyfriend right under her nose you can deal with Lou Thirteen and his minions too. It takes some time and patience but you can do it. I keep telling me that.
Lou you wanted a savage beast. You get a savage smart beast.
Since I´m stuck with Jalina and Janko day and night I start by trying to figure them out, trying to get inside their heads.
It´s a tough job but again good practice.
Janko talks as much about his past as a retired CIA agent. What I figured out with the help of Janina while she still felt like talking to me in heavily-accented English is that Janko must be an ex-patriate Serbian, perhaps a native to Belgrade. Every other day or so he gets a visit from some locals and none of them looks trustworthy. I wouldn´t be surprised to learn one day that ol´ Janko has some crimes against humanity to his name back from the Kosovo War.
What else do I know?
He´s cold-blooded as a pit viper, strong as an ox and knows a lot about wrestling. On the other hand he can´t practice most of the moves he knows anymore because Janko has a serious weight problem. Sometimes in the morning I notice a purple tinge around his lips and on his fingertips. Not sure yet what it means but it can´t be healthy.
My relationship to Janina went south very soon. She is serious about making money and I´m serious about sending her home poor as a church mouse because everything else would really hurt.
So we try to outdo each other in the gym and on the mat. It still hurts but now both of us. Chances are slim we will bond over the experience. We both fight to win but I have much more at stake so most of the time Janina goes home without a bonus. She does not just look like Lexie Glass she is a lot like her. Just like Lexie Janina is stubborn, skilled enough as a wrestler and doesn´t cheat with the last thing being a serious problem for her.
She wants to win, she wants the money but at a certain point her inhibitions kick in. I´ve heard that´s called morals. Interesting concept actually. Once I have a fat bank account on the Caiman Island I might try it just for fun.
Right now I don´t have that bank account so I use ever dirty trick I know on Janina and wait for her to respond in kind.
She doesn´t. Actually sometimes I´m not sure if she notices that I´m screwing her over. Since this is no fairy tale the evil stepmother wins most of the time and sorry no extra money for Janina.
And they say crime doesn´t pay.
I wonder if I should break that news to someone else.
