Sitting in the backstage area, nowhere fancy, Stevenson has the cameras on him as he immediately begins to speak, keeping it as straight to the point as he can.
“You know, I have been in this industry for eleven years now. That's almost longer than most people can say they have been doing this. So needless to say, I have seen many things, I have heard many things and I have even been a part of many things, much of which I regret but nonetheless; I have damn near seen it all in our sport.
Recently however, I caught Black’s promo for the upcoming Brawl where we’ll be squaring off against one another and you know: I am perfectly fine with the fact that you don't like me, or that you find me overrated, or whatever but what I don't appreciate is the fact that you did nothing more than take a giant crap on me, our match, this company and pretty much the entire industry that guys like myself and others have spent over a decade to build just so you would have a place to compete.
I get it Erik, you want to be cool, you want to be flashy, you want everyone to think that you are this ultimate badass but you're not. See, you proved to me that you don't know the first thing about this business. Yeah, it's true, I did lose to a woman last week and you know what? That's not the first woman I have lost to nor will it be the last I’m sure. But I don't understand your hostility, I don't understand why you have this massive chip on your shoulder because in case you haven't noticed, some of the best talent that we have here just so happens to be female.
Oh but I know, I shouldn't sit here and complain, right? See, that's where you're wrong because I take every match seriously, I take great pride in what I do and for someone like you to sit there and try to bury me? Yeah, that doesn't sit well with me because I have this ideology that it's simply bad business to do that.
Now don't worry, I’m not going to sit here and run down all of my achievements because we both know that they don't matter to you and fair enough; you don't care about me or my career and after tonight? I don't care about yours neither.
You want to take a crap on me, my career and everyone else here who busts their ass week in and week out? Fine, go right ahead and do that but just know this: if and when you fall short to me at the upcoming Brawl? You just buried your own career because if I am so shitty like you told everyone then you should have absolutely no problems running through me, right? Like you said, this match should only be seconds long and you should have your hand raised in victory but that's not how it's going to go down.”
He shakes his head from side to side.
“Now I don't expect you to understand that because well, you don't understand the first thing about this business and how it works so it kind of befuddles me as to how you managed to get a job here but nonetheless, I guess it really doesn't matter because you're here and obviously Mac sees something in you. But I want you to know this, you go ahead and you keep wielding your little shovel and pale because that's all you seem to be good at and truth be told; you're not even really that good at it.
Anybody can disrespect their opponent and this business, it's not hard to do Erik, you understand? What you did wasn't special, what you did wasn't eye-opening or head turning, no, it was stupid and at the end of the day? I don't see you lasting six months in this business. I see you making a fool out of yourself and getting tossed out on your ass sooner rather than later and I sure hope that happens because you don't deserve to be in this business, you don't deserve to stand in that ring against me or anyone else for that matter.
Go ahead and rebuttal what I had to say, go ahead and continue to pretend like you are some Billy badass because when push comes to shop? Everyone else knows differently, everyone else knows that you're no different than every other Tom, Dick and Harry who waltzes through here pretending like he owns the place when in reality; you own absolutely nothing, not even your opponent but I don't expect you to understand any of this because you are the type of person who needs to see it for himself, you are the type of person who is going to self-destruct and I can't wait to be there, front row with the largest box of popcorn that I can find because that day is on the horizon, I know it!”
Taking in a deep breath, he places both of his hands down into his lap and continues to speak.
“But until that day comes, congratulations Erik, you buried your own career and you better hope for your sake that you don't lose to me because how are you going to explain to everyone that you just lost to the man who is nothing? How are you going to explain to everyone that you couldn't beat a man who you referred to as a piece of shit in the ring? The answer is quite simple, you can't so — see you in what I hope to be your last match here in the EWC.”
Giving a very sarcastic thumbs up, he shakes his head, obviously disappointed with Erik and all of the stupidity that came out of his mouth. Rising to his feet, he simply walks off with nothing left to say because it's not every day where someone blatantly buries the company he works for but that is exactly what Erik did because he is too stupid to understand otherwise.
Fade.
