When I first encounter the demon I was actually very young. I was unaware of who he was exactly, especially with my brother being with me at the time. I would have thought that he had seen something too because ever since the séance he didn't spend as much of his time with me as he used to. I don't know. Maybe I was looking at it the wrong way. Maybe I wasn't spending time with him. It's all a blur nowadays, mostly. I don't remember much of my childhood, but I knew I was a little devil like most kids my age. I just wanted to get into everything.
And get into everything he did.
Gero and his brother were rarely scolded by their uncle. He did not share the disciplinary tact of their parents. Dez let the boys roam free and experience life. He would always say, " There's no greater teacher that life can offer than life itself, and you two have been molded young. Too young! I cannot train you to be warriors of the president of Jamaica or a marine corporal as your father had, but I can allow you to live as boys. To live in ways you've never really had a chance. To make the mistakes that your father saw as unacceptable flaws of life. I can allow you to be yourselves."
Gero never understood exactly what Dez meant behind his actions. He loved to speak in rhymes and weird quotes too often. In a strange way, Gero looked up to his free-spirited attitude. Dez never really allowed anything to hold him down unless he saw something in that crystal ball of his and that never led to anything concrete.
Finally it came the day that Gero, himself, decided that if he could not reclaim his father's business then he would work and learn from his uncle. He would become a great and powerful fortune teller and hopefully find the truths behind his families deaths. He hoped that he would one day be able to speak his father about it all, but he was more hopeful than he should have been.
It was a few years later when Kenny and Dez were gone away to help a family to get over their losses. Gero was home alone and he decided to have his own séance.
He began as he had grown to know. He lit the candles and incenses to bring a peaceful and welcoming feeling in the séance room. He spoke his chants, " Spirits of my ancestors... Spirit of my father... Rallot X, are you here with me, now?
Silence followed his chants for a moment, but just as he began to give up, the candles started to flicker with an untimely wind. The table shook rigorously for a minute or two then it stopped and all fell quiet. Gero started to move away from the table, disgust written on his face, but then he realized that he was not moving.
He took a look around himself and found that the room had disappeared. He was floated in the abyss of nothing, as his uncle would describe in his trainings. It was pitch black for a long moment as Gero called out into it.
Finally a face appeared. A familiar face that Gero had not seen since he'd first sat at that table with his uncle. A dark and sinister face wearing an inhuman smile.
UNKNOWN
Hello, X... It's been a while. Hasn't it?
The guttural voice was enough to shock Gero out of his body if he had one in this plane. He'd learned about this spirit's destructive nature from his uncle. He says that it was not a spirit, but a demon, and not just any demon. He was also known as Pazuzu. A demon who was often used in Exorcist films and novels.
TRIPLE X
Who are you?
UNKNOWN
Who am I? Who... am... I, Gero? You know who I am... You know why I'm here...
TRIPLE X
I don't know you. I don't know who you are! And I do not know why you are here?
UNKNOWN
I am the one who has been watching out for your family for years. I am the one that your family betrayed and left to rot here for centuries and to reap the benefits of my hard-work. You owe me, X! Your entire family owes me and you are going to pay with more than your life. (laughs) And your journey begins now...
Gero is shaken awake by his uncle Dez.
DEZ MORD
I'm sorry, Gero! I'm so sorry!
Dez was frantic. He even had tears in his eyes and that was saying something for him. Then Gero noticed that Kenny was not with him.
TRIPLE X
Where's Kenny, uncle Mord?
Dez grabs Gero around the shoulders into a tight embrace.
DEZ MORD
I'm so sorry, Gero, but Kenny died on the way home. He just started coughing up blood and wouldn't stop.
And get into everything he did.
