NEXTGEN EPISODE 001 EXTENSIVE RECAP
MARCH 31ST 2022
Welcome to the extensive recap of EWC's NextGen episode 1. The first show is taking place live from the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It's a pretty packed smaller venue, and everyone is rocking out to 'The Good Life' by Three Days Grace which is blasting over the PA system and speakers.
EWC President Mac is out right now, he is talking to the crowd, introducing NextGen as the 'Next Generation of EWC Superstars'. He then introduces the team. The General Manger Vic Scali comes out and welcomes everyone. Thanks Mac for the intro. He talks about how excited he is to get this talent to the next level.
John Livingston and Eric Mason are introduced as the analysts / commentary team. Alison Chen is introduced as the ring announcer, a bunch of cheers and whistles when she walks out. Then we meet the backstage interviewer, "Respectable" Joe Danes and finally the three EWC referees being used on NextGen: Linda Vine, Kat Dawkins & rookie referee Toby Sawyer.
We see a video package introducing us to the NextGen Roster. We get to see some backstage footage of them preparing, we see some of the training that goes on at the EWC's Wrestling Academy.
Mason: I'm Eric Mason, he's John Livingston and we are so very proud to bring you the inaugural episode of EWC NEXT GEN! This is going to be a very special night for our young rookie superstars, and I couldn't be happier to be calling the action with my partner here, good to see you again, John.
Livingston: You know, it's been 12 years since we've called wrestling together, Eric. I cannot believe I am stuck doing this with you again.
Mason: Great to see you too, My friend! What a special night!
There are 4 matches scheduled for the night. We are ready for the first as Justice and Norah Wadia make their way down to the ring during their respective entrances.
The bell sounds and they square off. The crowd is really into the match despite them not being familiar with either. Both competitors are wanting to make the ultimate impression - being the first winner in the history of EWC NEXT GEN. As the bell ring the match wasted no time becoming hard-hitting, with Norah using her MMA background to try to knock Justice out early. Justice proved to be pretty resilient, able to overcome the fast striking superstar with his 'unorthodox' (to say the least) wrestling style. Norah made a crucial mistake in the match trying to lock her 'Wonderous Williwaw' in too close to the ropes, allowing Justice a rope break. Her small argument with the referee gave Justice time to recuperate and after a cheeky thumb to the eye a few moments later he was able to hit 'I AM JUSTICE' and score a pinfall victory in our opening contest.
Mason: What a fantastic opening match-up John, both competitors REALLY wanted to score that first win in our new brand's history.
Livingston: Let me tell you something, Eric. I've never seen anything like Justice before. What the hell even is he?
Mason: Why, he's a Next Gen Superstar, John!
Livingston: He scares me. I'm a bad dude. I guess Norah should have played less Dungeons & Dragons and trained more for her match.
Mason: On to our next match. Get it together, John!
Our second match of the evening was a triple threat encounter, featuring Sleepy Winters, Barbaric and Ahiga Lopez. Each man heads to the ring to a different reaction - Sleepy getting a lot of cheers for his antics with the fans, Ahiga with a bit of a mixed response and Barbaric with even a few boos as he ignores the fans completely. All three men readied themselves in the ring, and as the bell rang the match got underway. It was a feeling out process, each rookie unsure of who they should target first. Barbaric went for Sleepy, but found his grappling prowess was nearly ineffective against the slippery ballerina Winters. Ahiga took the opportunity to pounce, hitting both opponents with picture-perfect fisherman suplexes at different points. Barbaric seemed to be the superstar most prepared for this match - perhaps because of recent training from a certain EWC Superstar. He was able to hit both of his signature maneuvers, the butterfly suplex and a suplex into a neckbreaker on each of his opponents. Ahiga did rebound at one point and looked to have the match one, however Barbaric caught him 'sleeping' and threw him out of the ring in order to use his 'Vindicator' finishing maneuver to put Winters to sleep and get the victory.
Mason: A huge win there for Barbaric, Ahiga thought he had the battle won but Barbaric was too much to overcome.
Livingston: He put Sleepy to sleep. I like that. No nonsense. Kid's got a bright future.
Mason: I think they all do, John!
Livingston: You are a such a boy scout, what do we have next?
Mason: It's back to singles action!
Our third match of the night was between Cruz Macaque and Alexander Devin. Both wrestlers made their way to the ring to a great reaction from the fired up EWC crowd. The bell rang and it was clear from the get-go what Devin's plan was to take the win in this match - Use his size and strength advantage over Cruz. However, Cruz's speed and tenacity was more than enough to keep her in this fight. Devin took her down with a running clothesline that looked to have rocked her at one point. He had her up for a fireman's carry but Cruz was able to dig her claws into Alexander's eyes and send the bigger superstar to the outside! Never shying away, the feisty Macaque even hit a plancha to the outside, shocking her fellow rookie superstar who went flying into the barricade as the fans went crazy! Once a dazed Devin made his way back into the ring, she hit him with the Himala Sa 34th Street for a pinfall victory!
Mason: What a star making performance here by Cruz Macaque! Great job to this new wrestling sensation!
Livingston: What in the hell? Devin is twice her size! I had twenty bucks on that one!
Mason: I didn't know you had twenty dollars to your name, John.
Livingston: I used your Venmo account again.
Mason: I told you to stop ... we'll deal with that later .. we gotta go on to our main event!
Our main event was a blockbuster singles match between Sunny Skye and Jocelyn 'No relation to Gideon' Gage. Both women got a big ovation for the crowd who were ready for a great contest after seeing how hard these rookies are working to put on a show. The bell rang and immediately both women locked up in the centre of the ring. A test of strength ensued, but Gage's power advantage was obvious. Skye backed off, but Gage rushed her and was hit with a deep arm drag for her efforts. Gage shook that off, but Skye knew she had to keep on the attack. Hitting her with lefts and rights, and a very disrespectful slap to the mouth, she tried to get Gage on the ropes. A very impressive moment as she hit the Miami Sunset on Gage but was only able to get a two count. Sunny was frustrated after this, and inexperience did get the best of her because of that. Gage swatted away a dropkick attempt and then got her up for a GagePlex (Thought they weren't related??) Sunny managed to kick out at two of that one, but then it was a 'Toss-up From the Hoss-Up' that spelled a victory for Jocelyn Gage!
Mason: What a big win for Jocelyn Gage here in our main event!
Livingston: Now that was a great match, both looked like wise beyond their years but Sunny Skye unfortunately came out on the losing end. Which is a shame, because her OnlyFans is fantastic.
Mason: That's not professional, John.
Livingston: I .. I didn't say it was.
Mason: Nevertheless, what a fantastic evening we've had here tonight on the premier episode of EWC NEXT GEN! We'll see you next on May 26th in Rochester, New York at the Main Street Armory where we've got a stacked line-up for you. Sunny Skye Vs Sleepy Winters, Jocelyn Gage vs Justice, Norah Wadia Vs Barbaric and in your main event, Cruz Macaque takes on Ahiga Lopez! All that and more coming at you from the purple brand, EWC NEXT GEN! I'm Eric Mason, for John Livingston and our entire Next Gen team, enjoy your evening! What a show!
