NEXTGEN EPISODE 003 EXTENSIVE RECAP
JUL 28TH 2022
Welcome to the extensive recap of EWC's NextGen episode 3 .. Our third show is taking place live from the PAYNE Arena in Rochester, New York. It's a pretty packed smaller venue, and everyone is rocking out to 'The Good Life' by Three Days Grace which is blasting over the PA system and speakers.
EWC President Mac is out right now, he is talking to the crowd, introducing NextGen as the 'Next Generation of EWC Superstars'. He then introduces the team. The General Manger Vic Scali comes out and welcomes everyone. Thanks Mac for the intro. He talks about how excited he is to get this talent to the next level and how grateful he is for everyone that enjoyed our previous episodes of Next Gen. He hopes episode two is even better.
John Livingston and Eric Mason are introduced as the analysts / commentary team. Alison Chen is introduced as the ring announcer, a bunch of cheers and whistles when she walks out. Then we meet the backstage interviewer, "Respectable" Joe Danes and finally the three EWC referees being used on NextGen: Linda Vine, Kat Dawkins & rookie referee Toby Sawyer.
We see a video package introducing us to the NextGen Roster. We get to see some backstage footage of them preparing, we see some of the training that goes on at the EWC's Wrestling Academy.
Mason: I'm Eric Mason, he's John Livingston and welcome back to another exciting round of EWC Next Gen I'm so happy to be calling the action with you here tonight again John this'll be fantastic. We've got two shows under our belts here and you can tell these Next Gen rookies are getting better and better each time they head to the ring!
Livingston: Oh this should be good Eric, I wasn't sure what we were getting into at first but it's been very fun and I can't wait to see tonight's matches.
Mason: Wow that's very positive of you, John! I'm kinda surprised but let's get to the action!
There are 4 matches scheduled for the night. We are ready for the first as Justice takes on Alexander Devin. The bell sounds and they square off. Both superstars were evenly matched, although Devin began to get frustrated with Justice's antics early on in the match and began hitting him with very physical knees and punches. Justice turned the tide after being rocked with a hard clothesline, he managed to hit the PEACEMAKER out of the corner that Devin threw him into. This got the crowd rocking and after a kickout by Devin and a then counter to the 'Foreshadowing,' Justice managed to hit the 'I AM JUSTICE' for a three count and a victory.
Mason: And Justice was bringing the, well, justice, here in our opening contest what a big win for him!
Livingston: That's the best you could come up with. Holy crap. Well that certainly got the crowd fired up, I'll tell you that. Great job by both of them but we could only have one winner.
Mason: That's true, I guess I could have said he's bringing the 'PAYNE?'
Livingston: A little better. Let's get to the next match. Sheesh.
Sleepy Winters and Ben Superior were up next, the crowd was hot for both competitors and wanted to see a great fight. The bell rang and Sleepy pretended to be passed out but hit Ben with a big arm drag once Ben charged him. Ben went back at him, but got a back body drop for his efforts. This made the usually cocky and arrogant Superior annoyed as he regrouped only to be suprised with a B2F superkick! Sleepy went for the cover but Ben angrily kicked out and went on the attack with his arsenal of kicks. Sleepy attempted to get back into the fight over the course of the match, but the fans weren't enough to rally him back into it and he ends up as a victim of the 'Leap of Faith' from the top rope as Superior covered him and got a three count victory.
Mason: Ben Superior was not messing around there, as he takes a victory over Sleepy Winters.
Livingston: Sleepy might have been partially sleeping through that match, because he never quite got into high gear there but still put up a great effort.
Mason: Just shows the level of competition here in Next Gen already.
Livingston: You're right, these superstars are badass.
Mason: Let's head back to the ring.
Next up was Ahiga Lopez and Jocelyn Gage. The Next Gen fans were mixed on Lopez but they were certainly on fire for Jocelyn Gage. As the bell rung it was a test of strength which Gage ended up winning as she pushes Lopez away and flexes her biceps to the EWC fans delight. Gage tried to rely on her powerhouse moveset throughout the match, but Lopez came prepared and had an answer for her moves. He countered the GagePlex into a rear naked choke. He countered her deadlift German Suplex with a roll-up before she could even release it. Gage was getting frustrated, her usual moves weren't getting the job done and she even got in the referee's face for a moment before remaining calm. She thought she had Lopez with her 'Toss-Up from the Hoss-Up' but Lopez indeed had that countered as well, as he shrugged her off and got her in the air for a vertical suplex brainbuster. An impressive feat as he covered for the pinfall victory as the crowd gave him great respect after the match.
Mason: Ahiga Lopez becomes the first person to hand Jocelyn Gage a loss here on Next Gen! He did ta ting!
Livingston: Don't ever say that again please. Jocelyn thought she had everything in the bag but you can't get too confident even for a second in the EWC. That costed her a victory tonight.
Mason: Indeed it did, but we're getting ready here for our main event as Sunny Skye goes one on one with Cruz Macaque!
It was time for the main event of Next Gen, as both Sunny Skye and Cruz Macaque take to the ring as the crowd gives them a raucous welcome. They have seen the great match-ups both women have competed in on Next Gen and are ready for a fantastic main event. They stand in opposite corners as the lights come down and the bell rings. This was a high flying match up, complete with a suicide dive early on by Cruz. Sunny seemed over her head when Cruz had her locked in the Shit Eating Grin but Sunny was able to power out of it and looked furious that Cruz would dare mess with her face. Sunny battled back with a springboard clothesline off the top rope from the apron that got the crowd really pumped up and tried for a pinfall but Cruz was able to kickout at two. Cruz grabbed a handful of Sunny's hair and dragged her to the corner to try for the Hamala Sa 34th Street, her patented finishing maneuver but Sunny managed to kick her away! They both ran to the center of the ring where Cruz went for a huge lariat but Sunny ducked, Cruz turned to face her and was met with The Safe Word as Sunny covered her and got a pinfall victory!
Mason: And that right there is a win! What a main event contest here tonight with Sunny Skye taking the big victory! This has been an incredible evening we've had here tonight on EWC NEXT GEN! We'll see you next on September 29th in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the MTS IcePlex where we're to have a stacked line-up for you. These first three episodes have been action packed and we've got even more to come in the next two episodes of EWC NEXT GEN! I'm Eric Mason, for John Livingston and our entire Next Gen team, enjoy your evening! What a show!
