Caleb Scott is sitting on his couch inside his house in the woods of Minnesota. The unrelenting winter continues to freeze the world outside as wind and snow blows around. Except for the sound of the wind blowing outside, Caleb sits in silence, occasionally glancing over at the trap door leading to the underground area where Luke Mason still sits. Still dealing with the constant battle in his head over what to do with Luke. Can he trust Luke? Caleb looks over again but this time he hears 3 loud thuds come from the front door.
"What the hell…?"
Caleb stands up and moves to one of the windows. He leans toward the window and looks left and right outside but sees nothing. He looks over at the front door and begins to walk toward it.
"Nobody better be messing with me. They'll be sorry they came anywhere near me. I don't know how anyone knows where this place is in the first place."
Grabbing the door handle, Caleb pushes the door open. A strong gust of freezing wind slaps Caleb in the face as some flakes of snow blow past him into the house. Once Caleb's eyes adjust to the bright white snow, he looks down at the floor and sees a letter tucked underneath a rock.
"Hmm."
The letter flaps around in the wind before Caleb bends over to grab it. Holding it in his hand, Caleb looks around outside before going back inside and closing the door. Caleb stares at the letter while he walks back to the couch and sits down.
"Nobody is supposed to know where this place is. How did someone find me and be able to sneak up to my door to leave this? I guess I should see what it is."
Caleb tears open the envelope and pulls out a single sheet of paper. Crumpling up the envelope and throwing it on the floor, Caleb brings the letter closer to his face with both hands as he reads aloud.
"You don't know me, but I know you. I know what's under your house. Release him or things will get much worse for you."
Caleb holds the threatening letter for a moment before his hands slowly start to clench the letter harder and harder. Caleb grips the letter as hard as he can, the paper crumpled up in hands. His face turns red with anger. Caleb quickly walks to the trap door and throws it open. Descending the ladder with a heightened sense of urgency and jogging down to the chamber door and opening it. Luke sits slumped down in the chair. Overcome by exhaustion from the physical and mental torture he has been subjected to. A heart monitor attached to Luke beeps in the background. Caleb moves towards Luke and grabs the back of his head, pulling Luke's face up towards his.
"Who knows you're here!?!"
Luke, confused and groggy, mumbles a little. Caleb tries to make out what he's saying as he looks at Luke's blood and snot-crusted face.
"...Nob…Nobody…"
Caleb, getting frustrated, brings his face right up to Luke's.
"Clearly somebody does and if I find out this is you, how you feel now will feel like paradise compared to what I'll do to you."
Caleb lets go of Luke's head and his head falls back down. Loudly exhaling, Caleb then turns and walks out of the chamber, slamming the door behind him. Retreating up the ladder and to the couch, Caleb sits down. Putting his hands in a praying position, he brings them up to his lips. A brief look of worry comes over Caleb's face as his eyes dart over to the crumpled-up letter lying on the floor.
