Fans are still filing into Estadio Monumental U Marathon in preparation for Stranglemania XVIII as cameras pan to a booth containing the NextGen general manager Summer Johnston, and former Prime announce team turned NextGen team, Hayley Kushnir and Marshall Evans.
Evans: Long time no see EWC nation!
Kushnir: It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve been in the booth, and it’s so great to be back here, in front of all of these fans, celebrating StrangleMania once again.
Johnston: You guys, I could not be more excited for tonight. Last season NextGen really showed out and put on a tremendous season and we’ve seen so many people make the move onto the main roster. This years’ crop is already making waves and we’re going to give the EWC faithful a sneak preview of what they can expect on May 25th when we kick off season 2 of NextGen live from Los Angeles, California.
Evans: This is so special to see, and I can’t wait to let everyone else in EWC see what’s coming.
Kushnir: We don’t have to wait too long, because our first match tonight LIVE on the StrangleMania Freeview is going to feature the upstart Viper going one on one with Gambit sensation Scrappy Coco.
Scrappy Coco is already waiting in the ring as “Viper” by Derivakat begins to play and the Poison Princess Viper makes her way to the ring.
The bell sounds and they square off. The crowd is really into their first taste of competition tonight as Viper darts in for a grapple, but Coco evades with a wag of their finger. Viper tries to strike again, and this time Coco ducks their big boot attempt. Coco feigns licking their paw, but as they do they’re met with a stiff forearm from Viper that catches Coco off guard and sends them stumbling back toward the ropes. Viper is firmly in control now, an irish whip sending Scrappy across the ring only to be met on the rebound by a leaping Viper coming down with a hurricanrana. Coco is down, Viper goes for the pin but only gets a 2 count. Viper stays atop the challenger, rolling Scrappy onto their stomach and locking in a cobra clutch! Coco fights with all their might, eventually pulling both of them to the ropes where Viper breaks reluctantly at 4.999. Scrappy gets to their feet, willing themselves back into it as they look for their Roaring Elbow! Viper ducks, sending Coco spinning before she drives her thumb into the throat of Scrappy Coco - the Rattlesnake bite! Coco doubles over, struggling to breathe before Viper hooks their head and delivers the Poison Kiss for the 1, 2, 3.
Kushnir: A decisive victory for Viper tonight, she might shock a lot of people this season on NextGen.
Evans: Hayley there was almost a hundred pound difference between these two, and Viper played to her strengths. She struck quick and didn’t let ol’ Scrappy get their… paws on her for long.
Johnston: We’ve been on the air for ten minutes and that might be the worst pun of the night Marshall..
Hayley: How do you think I feel…
Marshall: Don’t worry ladies, we’ve got more action coming up because our next bout puts El Gran Azul one on one with another promising NextGen talent, Brandon Abstract!
As El Gran Azul finishes his climb into the ring, “Vibeking” by Phear Phace begins to play and Brandon Abstract makes his way to the ring.
Abstract comes out of the gate strong, feigning a handshake to the innocent El Gran Azul. The handshake turns into a ripcord knee strike and Azul slumps into Brandon. Abstract doesn’t have much choice, the extra hundred pounds on Azul giving him trouble before he rotates and side steps letting El Gran stumble into the corner in his daze. Abstract runs in, leaping up and hitting an enziguri before grabbing Azul and using his momentum to shove him forward and out of the corner. Abstract climbs up onto the turnbuckle, looking for a diving elbow but Azul rolls to safety and Abstract hits the mat hard. El Gran Azul gets to his feet, picking up the offense on Abstract until he goes for his own top rope attempt with Ole! Abstract smartly evades contact and gets back to his feet before continuing his onslaught with Azul. Following a flurry of offense, Abstract hits a running knee strike, bringing Azul back down to the mat. He grabs hold of him with the Abstraction, locking in the Muta Lock but before Azul can tap out the official calls for the bell as the time limit has expired.
Johnston: Absolutely stunning display, I wish this match could’ve gone on longer. Great news is, at our season premiere there will be no time limit finishes, because someone is going to walk out with the win.
Marshall: Well I hope people don’t walk, but run to their seats because we’re about to get to the NextGen Stranglemania Freeview main event.
Kushnir: Doug in a Barrel takes on Eddy the… Wild Mage? I don’t..
Johnston: I’ve tried to figure it out.. Best not to ask.
Marshall: He’s WILD, obviously!
Doug in a Barrel has barely made it to the ring as “Final Boss Chan” by Camelia begins to play and a man clad in a robe and wide brimmed wizard hat appears on stage.
Kushnir: Oh no..
Eddy makes his way down to the ring, disrobing to an audible gasp from the crowd ringside. Doug slaps his barrel in response as the bell sounds and we’re off. Eddy starts off trying to throw anything he can at the barrel-clad Doug, a bevy of closed fists just thunk hollow on the barrel before a high dropkick sends Doug onto his back, flailing like a turtle. Eddy looks bewildered, like he doesn’t know how to even go about pinning Doug in his barrel, and instead sends a rain of stomps down onto Doug. Eventually Doug gets to the ropes, forcing a break as the ref pushes Eddy away and lets Doug get to his feet. Doug gets back up, not without difficulty, and as Eddy looks ready to approach again, Doug drops down and sinks into his barrel! Eddy looks positively bewildered, trying to coax out Doug with a combination of threats and kicks to the barrel but Doug won’t budge. Finally, Doug pokes at Eddy thru a hole in the front of the barrel and Eddy leaps about five feet into the air in terror. Doug pops back up, certain he’s found the weak spot in Eddy’s game. Eddy turns and Doug looks for the Barrel Roll, but Eddy’s wiry frame manages to slip through and lock himself around Doug’s upper body before summoning an ungodly level of drug-induced strength - Booming Blade! The barrel shatters in the ring, revealing Doug to… ONLY be wearing the barrel before the camera feed cuts out and the at home audience is met with audio only as the official’s hand slapping the mat for the three count is all that can be discerned between the crowd’s horrified cries and the sound of Hayley dry heaving in the booth.
Kushnir: Well… wild or not, Eddy got the job done tonight
Evans: Doug is probably really grateful for what’s left of that barrel right now.
Johnston: I kinda wish we had more barrels right now, if I’m being honest..
Hayley: Maybe we need to reevaluate the dress code here in EWC..
Evans: Regardless of barrel status, if you enjoyed what you saw tonight then tune in LIVE on your provider of choice, Showtime, TSN, Sky Sports or your tried and true EWCTV network on May 25th to check out all three of these competitors and more, capping off with a tag team main event you will NOT want to miss! For EWC NextGen, I’m Marshall Evans.
Kushnir: I’m Hailey Kushnir
Johnston: And I’m Summer Johnston… stay tuned EWC Nation, because StrangleMania XVIII starts? Right now.
The cameras fade from the booth and lead to the video package to introduce StrangleMania in 3…. 2…….
