The following is an OFF CAMERA conversation between Ashley Freeman and her husband Nathan McMichaels.
It’s roughly around 1 in the morning as headlights shine through the front windows of the two story McMichaels residence. A black Chevrolet Tahoe with heavily tinted windows sits in front of the garage. Inside the vehicle a visibly shaken Ashley Freeman sits in the passenger seat with her hands interlocked and resting on her lap. Her best friend Daphne Kreel is sitting in the driver’s seat munching on a straw with her hands heavily taped.
”Oh fuck,” Ashley says in between heavy sighs. Daphne leans back against the seat and looks over at her friend. ”Do you think he knows?” Daphne asks her with concern shown on her face. Ashley shrugs her shoulders while her fingers fidget in her lap. ”I honestly don’t know Daph. We didn’t talk much after I left for Japan,” Ashley answers in a worried tone.
After another long sigh, Ashley sucks back some air before opening the passenger side door. ”Wish me luck,” she says while swinging her legs out of the car and standing on the fairly cool asphalt. The moonlight dances across the front lawn as Ashley waves bye to her friend before closing the door. Daphne waits until Ashley makes it up to the front door before pulling out of the driveway.
Ashley fumbles around inside her bag as she pulls out her set of house keys. Right as she goes to put them into the slot, the door slowly opens as her husband is standing in the doorway. Ashley jumps a little at the sight of her husband. ”Honey, what are you doing coming home so late?” Nate asks her while trying to wipe the sleep out of his eyes. Ashley gives him a soft peck on the cheek while dragging her hand across his chiseled chest. ”Daphne and I were hanging out and lost track of time,” Ashley answers hoping he buys it. ”Oh, okay,” he retorts while letting her walk past him. As she walks past him, Nathan lightly smacks her on the butt. Ashley looks over her shoulder and chuckles to herself. Nathan smirks while picking her up into his arms and carrying her to the bedroom.
Nine hours later, Ashley is just waking up as her hair is a mess and her top is resting on the floor. She looks around and sees her husband is not in bed. Ashley slowly gets up still feeling the bruises from her last two fights. She makes her way down stairs where her husband is sitting at the kitchen table with a book in his hand. Ashley cocks her head a bit thinking this is quite odd. As she enters the kitchen, Nathan places the book down onto the table and looks in his wife’s direction.
”I don’t know what’s worse. This book that I am reading or the fact you lied to me,” he says through gritted teeth. Ashley is in the middle of reaching for the coffee pot when she freezes after hearing the cold words from her husband’s mouth. ”What do you mean baby? I would never lie….,” Ashley tries to respond but Nathan slowly rises to his feet.
”Don’t say another fucking word!” Nathan shouts while slamming his fist down onto the table. Ashley jumps as she hasn’t seen this side of her husband since the time he lost to his arch-nemesis three years ago. Ashley stammers trying to find words to say but Nathan just stares at her with a cold gaze in his eyes. ”Six years ago, you suffered from a miscarriage then you watched your father die from cancer. After those things happened, you swore that you’d never lace up your boots again. However, I was flipping through channels on the television and I saw something called Friday Night Rampage so I clicked on it. What do I see when it pops up on the screen? My wife is fighting some pretty boy douchebag and getting beat,” he adds as Ashley’s jaw drops and tears slowly forming in her eyes.
A silence befalls them before Nathan clears his throat while looking at his wife. ”Do you have anything to say?” he asks her through gritted teeth. Ashley takes a couple minutes to collect her thoughts as a heavy sigh escapes her. ”Six years ago, I was in a bad place and didn’t want to continue living. The only way I could cope was watching you. After watching you, I just had that urge to punch someone in the face. Then Daphne called me a year ago wondering if I wanted to get back into the saddle. You know how wrestling is in my blood. I wanted to tell you but I had to get to the airport,” Ashley answers as Nathan looks at her.
Tears stream down her cheeks as Nathan makes his way toward her and wraps his arms around her. ”I know it’s been rough but you could have told me. Then I would have helped you with training and see if I can join you on the road,” he offers as Ashley chuckles while looking up at him. ”I love that you want to be there babe but I need to do this on my own. Don’t worry Kolby, Daphne and Joseph are there to make sure I don’t over do it,” Ashley assured him. Nathan takes a deep breath and lets it out as Ashley gives him a kiss on the lips. Ashley latches her hands around his neck while standing on her tiptoes. ”Are you still mad?” she asks him.
Nathan shakes his head. ”I’m over it. Just try to communicate with me better,” he answers her as she smirks. They kiss again as the scene slowly fades.
