NEXTGEN EPISODE 008 EXTENSIVE RECAP
SEPTEMBER 28TH 2023
Welcome to the extensive recap of EWC's NextGen episode 8 coming to you LIVE from the Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois. The museum atrium is fitted out with a ring and rows of chairs for a hyped EWC crowd in the unlikeliest of places! Evelyn Dominguez takes the reins, opening up with a spicy rendition of the Star Spangled Banner before introducing the commentary team - Hayley Kushnir and Marshall Evans!
Kushnir: Welcome to Chicago EWC Nation!
Evans: We've got a fantastic lineup tonight, including the debuts of ZERO and Frankie Sanchez tonight in the main event. What a way to start your EWC career!
Kushnir: Kenzie Ford will take on Alexander Devin, and Alex Arthur dips his toes into singles action tonight against Viper!
Evans: But right now, let's get to our opening bout... it's another tag specialist, Luce Cannon taking the Wild Mage, Eddy Maverick!
After both men make their entrance, Luce immediately lunges at Eddy as the bell sounds. The much larger man absolutely levels Eddy, going for a quick pinfall but only getting a 2 count. Luce pulls Eddy to his feet, whipping him into the ropes before dropping him with a thunderous chop that literally shakes the bones of the dinosaur skeleton precariously stationed about twenty feet from the ring. Luce goes to pick Eddy up again, looking to attempt an abdominal stretch but Eddy pulls him down into a small package that gets him a 2 count of his own. Luce powers out, seething as he gets to his feet. Eddy follows suit, grabbing Luce and attempting a suplex. Eddy is grossly outmatched, failing to even move Luce and nearly throwing out his back in the process. Eddy releases his attempt, simultaneously managing to duck a back elbow from Luce before he rolls out of the ring. Luce follows close behind, Eddy now bolting toward the dinosaur skeleton exhibit. Eddy peeks out from behind a dinosaur leg, Luce attempts to chop at his chest again and misses, instead hitting the dino leg. The skeleton shimmies, and both men dash back toward the ring before the count of 10, and before a couple of errant bones fall down from higher up on the skeleton. Eddy gets into the ring faster, climbing onto the top turnbuckle and leaping at Luce with a missle dropkick. He makes another pinning attempt, but Luce kicks out at two. Eddy gets back to his feet, trying to pummel Luce with closed fists that Luce largely manages to block. The Power Hoss has something up his sleeve though, if he were wearing any, and pushes Eddy back, catching him as he runs back in with a vicious clothesline. He hoists up Eddy, 11-up, 3-down! The jackhammer drops Eddy nearly on his head and Luce hooks the leg emphatically. Somehow Eddy kicks out! Luce looks stunned, looking at the referee as he gets to his feet to begin arguing with the official. Eddy gets to a vertical base, eyes glazed over before he grabs Luce from behind again. Luce smirks knowingly, but his expression quickly changes as Eddy lets out a gnarly yell and snaps back Luce with the Booming Blade! Eddy covers Luce, hooking both meaty legs for the 1,2,3.
Kushnir: An unexpected win tonight for Eddy Maverick! Maybe the guy is smarter than he looks?
Evans: I... wouldn't go that far. Luce Cannon put up a great effort, but I think he thought Eddy would be a bit more of a pushover.
Kushnir: I mean, he kinda was... but that's behind us now. Luce can brush himself off, and Eddy can hopefully get the help he needs.
Evans: Up next, it's Alex Arthur of Amityville Horror taking on the Poison Princess - Viper!
Alex and Viper both make their entrances, with Viper displaying her snake for everyone to see. Alex doesn't take the bait though, not nearly as perturbed by it as her last opponent was. The ref calls for the bell, and both competitors tie up in the ring. Viper being smaller, slips under the grapple and smashes a forearm into Alex's lower back. He grimaces, turning toward her before she boots him in the midsection to double him over. She goes for a leg drop over the back of his neck, but Alex evades and Viper lands flat on her backside. Arthur takes the advantage, running the ropes and hitting her with a low flying splash for a quick 2 count. Viper kicks out, getting back to her feet briefly before Alex drops her down with a DDT. It's all Alex Arthur right now, turning the crowd up as he whips Viper into the ropes, catching her on the rebound with a superkick. He picks her up, hoisting the smaller woman higher with Kingslayer, the spinning brainbuster leaves Viper down but not out as she barely just gets the shoulder up before 3. Undeterred, Alex goes up to the top rope looking for a flying splash but as he leaps off, Viper gets the knees up and drives them into Alex's gut. She scrambles to her feet, Arthur without any air left in his lungs as she runs the ropes and comes back with a thunderous curb stomp. She attempts a pin, getting a very short 2 count before Arthur kicks out. Viper instead makes the effort to pull the bigger man up to his feet and ready her hand - the Rattlesnake bite! Viper again drives her thumb into Arthur's neck, continuing to make it difficult for the man to breathe. She doesn't go for the pin immediately though, for good measure she hooks his head as he's choking to breathe and whirls him down to the mat face first with the Poison Kiss! That's the final nail as Viper secures the victory.
Evans: The Viper struck hard tonight!
Kushnir: What a bounce back from her last match with Kenzie Ford.
Evans: Speaking of Kenzie Ford, she's up next with the enigmatic Alexander Devin!
Kenzie makes her way out first, before Alexander Devin makes his way from out beneath the dinosaur skeleton. Kenzie shrieks, leaping back away from him as he enters the ring. She takes a second, gets her zen, and the official calls for the bell. Kenzie runs at Devin, trying to take the bigger man down with a clothesline but getting nothing but a belly laugh from Devin for her troubles. She runs the ropes, trying again and nearly falling back on her backside after bouncing off of his chest again. Alexander Devin laughs again, this time catching an open palmed slap from Kenzie for his troubles! His head snaps to the side, hair covering his face as he stands perfectly still to let Kenzie think about what she's just done. She takes half a step back, holding up her index finger before Devin's hand lashes out and snatches her by the hair. She shrieks, getting hoisted up into a fireman's carry very much against her will. He dumps her down onto the mat, nearly catching her as she bounces as he scoops her up into Bitter Words. The scoop slam lands with a thud, Devin leaning over Kenzie in a somewhat lax pinfall attempt. She kicks out after 2, garnering a surprised look from Devin who gets back to his feet and urges her up to hers. She takes too long, and Devin goes for a knee drop onto her collarbone, but Kenzie was playing possum! Kenzie rolls to safety, Devin's knee slamming into the mat. She takes quick advantage of his prone position, running off the ropes and leaping over Devin with a sunset flip, transitioning the larger man into a powerbomb that shocks the crowd as much as it does Kenzie. Ford takes the offense from here, dragging the big man into position and peppering him with a series of kicks before she climbs onto the turnbuckle. She leaps off, shooting star press! Kenzie grabs both legs, kicking hers for dear life as she secures another victory, keeping her undefeated streak intact.
Kushnir: She's done it again, Kenzie Ford with an impressive showing!
Evans: She really is built Ford T-
Kushnir: We don't need a 3Pac style lawsuit..
Evans: Flawless!
Kushnir: And for our final segue of the night, one of these two men will start their journey on NextGen with a flawless record. It's Frankie Sanchez and ZERO - up next!
Both men make their way out to the ring, the jockeying between the two beginning even before the bell sounds. As soon as the referee signals, ZERO makes a lumbering run for Frankie and Frankie immediately dips out of the ring. ZERO gives chase, but Frankie's smaller waistline gives him a bit of an advantage as he slides under the bottom rope back into the ring. ZERO climbs up onto the apron, and Frankie gives him a couple kicks at the knee level to try and bring the big man down. ZERO barely registers the strikes, climbing into the ring in spite of the kicking. Frankie runs the ropes, coming back at ZERO with a wild swing. The haymaker connects and stuns ZERO for a moment, giving Frankie an opening to run again, this time clipping the big man with Cutting the Line! The spear brings ZERO down, and Frankie grabs both legs because well, that's what he's seen everyone else do tonight. He gets a two count before ZERO unceremoniously yeets Frankie about 2 feet away. Frankie grimaces, the front bump not what he's used to as ZERO gets back to his feet. ZERO pulls Frankie up by the waistband, locking his arms around his hips and tossing him over his shoulder with a belly to back suplex. ZERO is locked in now, pulling Frankie back to his feet and pummeling him back into the corner. He steps back, Frankie coming staggering out as ZERO levels him with with Oblivion Boot. Frankie crumples, and ZERO makes the pin but only manages a 2 count as Frankie digs down deep for that shoulder roll, hoping somewhere Rebecca is watching. ZERO gets up to his feet, dragging Frankie into the corner where he steps down on his throat, choking him out as he holds onto the ropes in the corner. The referee makes their five count and ZERO, reluctantly, releases the boot on his throat. He stomps down on Frankie for good measure before the official checks in on him to ensure he can continue. Frankie waves them away, he's not finished this early! He gets to his feet, ZERO coming barreling in for a clothesline but Frankie ducks it. Frankie clubs ZERO in the back as he hits the corner turnbuckle chest first. He keeps the pressure on, blow after blow raining down on ZERO before he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a grimy handkerchief. Frankie whips ZERO around and stuffs his fingers, handkerchief and all into his mouth! Where's Petey?! The crowd roars with excitement as ZERO tries to claw away Frankie's hand. ZERO uses his size advantage, twisting wildly trying to break free as he chokes on the digits, and both he and Frankie whip right into the official! The official is down, and Frankie takes his eyes off the prize for a second, looking down at the fallen referee. ZERO wisens up, biting down on Frankie's fingers in his mouth until Frankie finally has to release and pull back. Frankie yelps, examining his fingers for blood (and teeth marks) as ZERO coughs for air. Frankie runs at ZERO in retaliation, but ZERO snatches him up with Black Hole Slam! Both men are down on the mat as the crowd screams in appreciation. The official begins to come to, seeing both men down and beginning their count. As they reach 5, ZERO stirs and begins to get back to his feet. At 7, Frankie is lucid enough to start trying to regain his own footing. Both get back to their feet before 10, and Frankie goes for a big boot. ZERO manages to side step, causing Frankie to lose his balance and ZERO catches hold of him and hooks his head. It's Dividing By ZERO! Frankie slams into the mat face first, and ZERO rolls him onto his back before making the final cover.
Evans: What a main event!
Kushnir: I'm shocked you didn't make a pun about it. That's almost as impressive as these two in their debut match!
Evans: What a wild night we had tonight, folks we are out of time here in Chicago but we can't wait to see you all LIVE for the NextGen finale, it's Black Friday in New York City and ANYTHING can happen! I'm Marshall Evans, and she's Hayley Kushnir!
Kushnir: And EWC - we are outta here! See you November 24th!
