DAD watches from high above San Juan. The Divewire Action Drone rips through the sky. It flies hurriedly over the golden sands of Isla Verde beach, barely pausing to acknowledge Ponce de León’s old place. It makes a beeline for the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, the site of Prime 120! The agile drone flips, flops, and flies downward and into the building through a door just as it’s about to close. It weaves through the halls and eventually into the arena bowl where Divewire is running a staircase over and over. Sometimes he hits every step. Sometimes it’s two or three at a time. He runs up. He runs down. He runs up. He runs down. Ignoring camera, he is still able to speak. Cardio is at peak these days.
“I’m happy to be part of the crew that takes you down.”
He stops mid step and glares into the drone cam.
“You heard me, Sally. It was an absolute THRILL to be in attendance LIVE in Alaska the night Candy surprised you with a sudden Candy Crusher and a 1, 2, 3 that lit the entire EWC ablaze!!! For me, StrangleMania season has been a complete dream, but not without its share of nightmares. Sally, you think I filled my pants the moment I saw the match card? The honest truth is that I was shook. Seeing my name in the Main Event slot against the company's top champion… struck fear. Am I just fodder for the champ heading into Mania?
Maybe that's what I'm meant to be. Drive Shaft is your easy win. Your hit of momentum on the way to Reid. Reid between the lines on this one. I am more like your StrangleMania opponent than you might think!”
He runs down.
“You and I are both living our separate lives. Each of us has a valid story. Both of us NEEEEEEED this win. You need this. I know it. And I am fighting and clawing and scratching my way towards simply the chance to earn myself my very first StrangleMania moment! Who knows how far I’ll fall if I don’t pin you this Sunday night? Would I even make it to StrangleMania at all?”
He stops at the bottom and a small smile hits.
“How high will I fly if I win?”
Arlington quickly spins on his heel and turns to start running up the staircase.
“My frustration is at an all-time high. I know that I’ve put myself out there and done every ounce of the work I need to do to prove that I belong here. My name is DIVEWIRE and that is the very last time I will correct anyone. I didn’t come here to get insulted and underestimated by the upper roster. I came here to rise! And here you come, Sally, Ms One Hundred Plus. Here to make me look like the untrained backyarder that you think I am. Pumped-up rookie with a deathwish and a burgeoning rep gets his ass handed to him by the champ. That the game you wanna play? You plan to stop me from getting past the “technical, grounded wrestling” part of our Main? I wanna show you how quickly a match can get out of hand when you expect things to start off slow and methodical. I can hold my own on the mat, sure, but you assume we’re going to start down there. I’m gonna push the pace from the jump. You wanna tie me up like a pretzel? Get a hand on me. Dare ya. DARE YOU. What do I have to fear of a rising tide when I can just rise above?”
Divewire reaches the top of the stairs and stops to catch his breath. He looks out across the bowl and down at the wrestling ring at the centre of it all.
“Don't be offended. Don't be flattered. Be ready for Divewire. That's all I ask. I don't want anything around here to EVER be easy. Make me wonder why I chose this career in the first place. Make me question the entirety of my life choices. Make me sweat. Make me bleed. Make me cry. This life is torture sometimes. Everything hurts. But I'll push through. I'll persist. I am stronger than I think I am! I'm going to take down Ms One Hundred Plus if it's the last thing I do...”
Fade to black.
“...before StrangleMania!!!”
